BIG King Toronto Condos
BIG King Toronto Condos is a New Condo development by Westbank-Corp located at Spadina and King West in downtown Toronto. Situated between 489 to 539 King street West, Big condos are in a most sought after neighborhood.
Some of the most prominent developers Westbank and Allied Properties along with world renowned architects BIG (Bjarke Ingles Group) are responsible for developing an extraordinary building which will be the first of its kind in Toronto. This new condominium project will boast 16 storeys and will be composed of 514 condo units for mixed use. Still at the pre-construction stage expected occupancy takes place in Summer 2023.
The concept of this project is aimed at creating a building that goes above and beyond the conventional tower-on-a-podium. According to the founding partner of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), having homogenous buildings in a city known for its diversity makes no sense. Therefore Big King condos will be a visual feast for the eyes and will create spaces for retail, residential and boutique offices. The design team is offering cascading balconies and terraces to all residents, with the goal of creating abundant green space, and what is uniquely visionary to this project is what the Bjarke Ingels Group is calling “pixelated” patterns with “peaks”. “These sets of pixels, which make up the rolling façade of the building, will be rotated at an angle of 45 degrees from the street grid thereby increasing exposure to air and natural sunlight.”
The BIG group always focuses on how their structures integrate into an pre- existing environment, the development offers a distinct centre for the Toronto community by connecting multiple foot paths that cross this generous public space at the base of the structure.
With amenities such as a catering kitchen, concierge, court, courtyard, cycle-friendly, fitness, games room, garden, lounge, parking, playground, storage, and terrace, residents are offered a fantastic slice of what the city and condo life has to offer. The structure itself with it’s 4 peaks and valleys will facilitate maximum daylight exposure. Each unit will have access to its own exterior space, whether its a terrace or balcony.
Other unique features this project offers are the larger than the normal number of 2-3 bedroomed units. The building will also features knock-out panels which will make it simple to merge the smaller units and create larger ones if a custom build is required. Within the building plan comes 181,070 square feet of retail units and 38,696 square feet of modern office spaces housed on the first three floors. The higher levels are expected to be composed of about 624 residential units. The entire building is projected to have a total of 78 studio units, 318 one-bedroom units, 167 two-bedroom units and 61 three-bedroom units.
One last interesting feature of this project is the central courtyard which will occupy more than 21,000 square feet of space. Composed of a hemlock forest and an urban court, the landscaped forest will offer a relaxing environment for both visitors and residents.
